Your Weekly Portland Club Update: September 10, 2021

Dear Member,

It was great seeing so many of you here at the club over Labor Day weekend. We had such a blast sending off summer! And we’ve still got lots of pool weather ahead, so come on by and check out all the activities, classes, and sports going on this week.

Virtual Tour de Pier Ride
We’re bringing the Tour de Pier to you—virtually! This annual Manhattan Beach event raises funding for cancer research, as stationary cyclists “race” along the Strand with its mesmerizing ocean view. On Sunday, September 12, we are live-streaming Tour de Pier here at the Club. Join us for this free class. You can register on Connect. A cycle instructor will be on hand, for those of you who are new to cycling. Come soak up all the good vibes!

After-School Clinics
Looking for constructive after-school activities for your kids? The Bay Club proudly introduces After-School Clinics designed to help children grow, engage with others, and build new skills. From dance to crafts to sports and martial arts, there’s an activity for every child aged 5 to 12. It all begins this month and continues throughout the school year. Clinics vary by location. These 2-hour classes generally meet twice a week, on either a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule, beginning at 3:30 pm or 4:00 pm. Some clinics will meet on Fridays. View the offerings and conveniently register via Bay Club Connect.

Marissa Tries Golf
On the newest episode of our ongoing video series, Marissa Tries, our fearless VP of Brand Marketing dares to go where she has never gone before: a golf course! Pairing up for lessons with Golf Pro Alex Franklin, Marissa visits the lush greens of Bay Club StoneTree. Will she hit a hole-in-one? Tune in here to find out.

Fitness Industry News
Fitness clubs will soon flex their muscles on Capitol Hill. For the first time in the organization’s 40-year history, the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) has hired a lobbyist. Liz Clark recently became the trade group’s president and CEO. Clark has extensive experience in wooing lawmakers; previously, she created political clout for the National Confectioners Association. Hard hit by COVID, the fitness industry lost substantial revenue in 2020, yet has largely been left out of pandemic aid. Now with Clark at the helm, IHRSA aims to change that. Read all about it in this article from Wall Street Journal.

Our Latest Mask Guidelines—AN UPDATE
Per the latest County mandate, all individuals are required to wear masks while indoors at the club, except while eating or drinking, actively engaged in water-based sports (e.g. swimming, swim lessons, diving), and other sports where masks create an imminent risk to health. Once water-based sports activity is completed, they should continue to wear masks in the club until exiting the facility. Please also note that our San Francisco locations will adhere to the proof of vaccination policy that has gone into effect for SF County. We will continue to monitor State and County safety updates across California and Oregon as they pertain to masks as well as the possible expansion of vaccination proof requirements. Thank you for your cooperation.

Club Reminders
A few friendly reminders to help everyone be courteous of other members.

  • Lap swimming is first come, first served. Please be mindful of your swim time and circle swim when others are waiting.
  • Children under the age of 14 must have poolside adult supervision at all times.
  • To keep our littlest swimmers set up for success, please remember to triple up! For children not yet potty-trained, they are required to wear a swim diaper, diaper cover, and a swimsuit.
  • Please be courteous of towel use and help us conserve water by limiting the number of towels you use, and place used towels in the designated towel bins.
  • Please refrain from the use of cell phones in the sauna, steam room, and locker rooms at all times.
  • Please be courteous of other members and take all cell phone conversations into the lobby.

Thank you. We look forward to seeing you!

In health,
