Summer Safety Matters
As we gear up for our busiest season, let’s keep the fun flowing while ensuring safety remains a top priority. Here are some gentle reminders to help make this summer season the best and safest one yet!
Lifeguards on Duty
During the summer season, standard lifeguard hours are 9:00am-7:00pm daily. We’ll also be conducting lifeguard drills on the pool deck and always welcome member participation.
Swim Safety Test
Members and guests under the age of 13 must pass a swim safety test to be allowed to swim on their own. Curious what a swim test entails? Here’s the lowdown in 4 simple steps:
Step 1: Parent / guardian stands alongside the pool.
Step 2: Kiddo will be asked to swim 25 yards (any stroke) without goggles and exit the pool unassisted.
Step 3: The fun one! Kiddo will be asked to jump into the water, fully submerge themselves, resurface, tread water for 1 minute (with ears out of the water and face forward), then exit the pool unassisted.
Step 4: Prizes and high-fives! A water safety wristband will be awarded to the newly minted swimmer, which means they are free to swim at their leisure with parent supervision in the pool area.
Remember, if your kiddo is not yet swim ready or can’t complete the above test, they must always be accompanied by a guardian in the pool within an arm’s reach.
Pool Breaks
During the busiest weekends between the hours of 12:00pm and 5:00pm, lifeguards will administer pool breaks in order to check for safety issues and to clear out any debris. You will hear a long whistle blow at the top of the hour, and all members 13 and under will be asked to clear the pool for about 10 minutes. These breaks are a great time to use restrooms, reapply sunscreen (we have Sun Bum available poolside), or get hydrated!
Thank you for helping to keep the clubs safe this season.
Let’s make this a summer to remember…
