The Quad Los Angeles Clubs: November 18, 2024
Dear Member,
Strangely enough but with the time change, comes increased theft across all major cities in the US. It’s literally like clockwork! I pulled in my good friend & Chief Customer Officer, Joe Dalecio to chat about it.
Does Daylight Savings truly affect Crime?
Yes, across all major cities there is a decrease in Spring & there is an increase in Fall. A few years ago, Stanford University did a study on the data from the National Incident-Based Reporting System & it was proved out. And the findings were quite simple…criminals feel they are more likely to get caught based on the amount of daylight. Applies indoors too!
Where do we see the most theft?
Speaking towards the retail industry in general, you always hear about smash and grabs during this time of the year. People leaving a bag in a car while they run into the grocery store, people in the middle of holiday shopping, etc. In the club, while not frequent, what we most commonly see are locker room incidents. This is the only area that we can’t have a security camera in place to provide that extra layer of security. While we have as active of a locker room presence as we can, its not possible for us to see it all.
What is our ask of members?
Help us with gate control, make sure you check in properly each visit, respect our guest check-in process so we can account for everyone that is coming into our club.
Use the common area lockers, lock boxes, or simply don’t bring valuables to the club or left visible in your cars.
We do our best to keep things safe, but we would love your help too. Don’t leave valuables in the lockers or in your cars. And if you see something, say something (borrowing that from the TSA).
What are we doing as a company to continue to protect our Members?
We are in the middle of rolling out fully upgraded camera systems across all our clubs. Close to $3M spent this year in high-tech cameras alone. So, while we ask members to help, we are doing our part to. Smile, you ARE on camera!
